Olivier Douzou

My penultimate illustrator from my 'French illustrators week' is Olivier Douzou. Olivier is an architect by trade but has added many strings to his bow as he is also a writer, illustrator and graphic designer. He is also responsible for starting up the publishing house, aimed for children, called Les Éditions du Rouergue in 1994 as the artistic director. It's targeted at the youth and develops innovative editorial.

His first picture book was back in 1993 called Jojo la Mache, a children's story about a cow (un vache). As it happens he also collaborated on a picture book with Emilie Chollat (see previous post) on the book entitled Le Défilé.

Olivier has a flexible style, that is to say that he doesn't appear to have a characteristic look. Some of his paintings - like the car one below - remind me of Johnny Hannah's style (see June's postings).
