Adrian Johnson

Having just read an interview with artist/illustrator Adrian Johnson on Grain Edit, it seems that he was not aware of the Charley Harper's and Miroslav Sasek's of the world until fairly recently. He puts this down to his pre-internet student days, when that kind of resource was just not available to him. He does however, take influence from the 50s design styles.

I love his style - retro stylised characters with a humorous modern twist; a subtle colour palette; nice textures and compositionally placed typography. Johnson is a great believer in balancing commercial and personal work, which as I know from experience of living with an illustrator, is the only way to keep a creative mind.
